Become a School Governor

What is School Governance

A school governor oversees the management side of a school. They set the school vision, mitigate finances and scrutinise educational outcomes. Working alongside senior members of the school to hold the Head Teacher to account on key decisions. Ensuring that all decisions including financial are following the school aims and objectives.

Who can be a governor?

A dedicated person who wants to improve education, by bringing skills from their professional background e.g. finance, law, management, etc.

A governor with business know how can transform a school. You can be a governor at any stage of your career, it is a great chance to experience leadership at a board level.

How much commitment is involved?

Commitment to being a governor usually involves 4-5 hours a month for 9 months of the year, mainly in the evenings.
