Become a Trustee

New College Durham Academies Trust is looking to recruit Trustees. We are specifically looking for Trustees that bring experience in the following areas:

  • Finance
  • HR
  • Strategic Management
  • Education
  • Legal
  • ICT

We would also welcome applicants from other professional backgrounds, with strategic mindset and board level experience. Our Trust currently has seven independent Trustees who bring a diverse range of skills and experience.

The role of a Trustee

Trustees contribute their skills, knowledge and experience towards the success of the organisation. The main role of a Trustee is to help to steer the organisation in the right direction. Trustees set strategic vision and hold executive leaders to account.

Trustees sit on the Trust Board, which meets at least four times a year and which is collectively responsible for key decisions. Collectively, the Trust Board ensures that the Multi-Academies Trust is compliant, operates efficiently and delivers value for taxpayers’ money. Individual Trustees get involved in specialist sub-committees, according to their interest and skills, with meetings held at least once in each term. Meetings are held in person and via Teams.

Whilst Trustees are volunteers, they are both Charity Trustees and Company Directors, and play a vital role in our education system.

Key areas of responsibility:

  • Strategic leadership: As a Trustee, you’ll be part of shaping our Multi-Academies Trust’s vision for high-quality, inclusive education. The Board decides on the Trust’s goals and the overall strategy. This makes sure the Trust stays true to its charitable purpose.
  • Ensuring accountability: You’ll oversee how well the Trust is performing. This means holding executive leaders to account and receiving assurances on the quality of education, pupil welfare, effective financial performance and keeping estate safe and well-maintained.
  • Engaging with stakeholders: Your role may also involve connecting with a range of stakeholders, so that decision-making is supported by meaningful engagement.

Candidates are invited to apply by submitting an application form (download here) to Victoria Miller, Head of Governance v.miller@ncdat.org.uk

If you would like an informal discussion with the Chair of the Trust Board, please email Victoria.
