Ted Harrison Painting Unveiled at Wellfield School as 95th Anniversary Gift

Gifted by Ted Harrison museum to celebrate schools legacy and honoring the notable alumni, Ted Harrison.

Wellfield School celebrated a landmark moment in its 95-year history this week with the unveiling of a treasured painting gifted by the Ted Harrison Museum in Canada. The artwork, created by renowned artist and former pupil, Ted Harrison, was officially unveiled in a special ceremony attended by family members of the late artist – several of whom continue to have connections with Wellfield School to this day.

The generous gift commemorates nearly a century of educational excellence in Wingate and serves as a tribute as to how far a Wellfield School student can go. Ted Harrison’s early artistic talent was nurtured at Wellfield School and now the painting will be on permanent display, offering daily inspiration to students, staff and visitors alike.

‘This painting is more than a beautiful work of art, it’s a bridge between our past and present. We are deeply honoured to receive this gift, and even more moved to share this moment with members of Ted Harrison’s family, who remain integral to our school community.’ Said Head Teacher of Wellfield School, Louise Colquhoun.

The unveiling ceremony featured remarks from Linda Rodham, CEO of New College Durham Academies Trust and members of Ted Harrison’s family, who reflected on their relatives lifelong connection to the school.

As Wellfield School celebrates its 95th anniversary, this painting stands as a symbol of tradition, creativity, and the enduring bonds that connects students – past and present – to the heart of their school.
